To provide even illumination of a large field use a lamp with a large filament. This is especially important for the 2X lens. A 24 volt, 300 watt, tungsten-filament lamp has a relatively large filament.

Description: C:\MyRSI\website\web 2010\site_build\support\images\icon_redarrow.gifMounting

While the photograph of the MacroScope on the web site shows the MacroScope to be free standing (separate from a camera), we find it more convenient to attach the MacroScope directly to the camera via the vertical C-mount. This fixes the alignment and the distance between the lens and camera. RedShirtImaging provides mounting hardware for NeuroPDA or NeuroCCD cameras with the MacroScope.

Description: C:\MyRSI\website\web 2010\site_build\support\images\icon_redarrow.gifOptical Alignment

The MacroScope is designed to form a real inverted image 1.7 cm above (past) the end of either C-mount. For both the 2X and the 5X objectives a working distance of about 1.0 cm should form an image at the correct location.

Description: C:\MyRSI\website\web 2010\site_build\support\images\icon_redarrow.gifAdapter Rings

Macroscope IIa comes with four threaded adapter rings:
1. M46-M52
2. M40.5-M46
3. A smaller unlabeled ring for microscope objectives with ordinary (25mm) threads.
4. A smaller unlabeled ring for microscope objectives with large (RMS) threads.

Rings number 1, 3, and 4 attach directly to the Macroscope. Ring 2 attaches to ring 1.

The 25 mm lens is attached via ring 2. The 50 or 75 mm lenses are attached via ring 1.
Microscope objectives are attached via ring 3 and 4.

Macroscope-II :    Specify the wavelengths for the incident light filter, dichroic mirror and secondary filter, for a filter cube, #91016, purchased from Chroma Technology, Rockingham, VT 05302, (802) 428-2500.

Macroscope-IIa :  Specify the wavelengths for the incident light filter, dichroic mirror and secondary filter for filter cube, U-M509 (U-MF/XL), purchased from Olympus which is then populated by filters from Chroma Tchnology, Rockingham, VT 05302, (802) 428-2500.

When switching lenses on the macroscope, make sure to set the f-stop to the maximum opening and set the focus at infinity. We recommend you tape the lenses and fix the setting at this position.
